Let's say money is a factor and I can get a Savage Stevens 200 in 270 Win for $200. I have a 6.8 barrel and bold head, is it technically possible to get the long action 200 to feed the 6.8 round from the internal box (blind) magazine.

I have not found a short action Savage or Stevens 200 for $200, obviously that would be ideal.

I have also posted this to 68Forums where I am a member.

Thoughts?

If you can get a deal like that at this point in time, do not pass it up! Regardless of how you chamber it. If it doesn't feed you can single load it, and I have no doubt you can sell it for more than $200! :-)

The 6.8 will not feed from the long action (ask me how I know). A single shot follower is the way to go for your build. With the long action, you can seat bullets into the lands and not have to worry if they will feed from the magazine.

Could you build a magazine block and use a 308, model 110 bolt body with the baffle? If you are set on a 6.8 I might swap out actions with you. I am wanting a 6.5swede But have a 4.27 SA

So the real show stopper is not the feeding from the magazine, it is the bolt face. You can open up a 223 bolt face, those are SA 7/16 inch lugs. The LA lugs are 1/2 inch and the smallest bolt face is larger than the 6.8 SPC case head.

I have not found 223 LA bolt heads.

I am going to shoot it 270 Win for a while.

You can also purchase a bolt head from PT&G that is specifically made for the 6.8

Correct, but the 6.8 is 7/16th (.442) as advertised. I suppose I could call them and see if they would one off but I would not hold my breath on that.

I will keep looking for a SA Stevens for the 6.8 build. In a couple of months I will know where I am headed with the Stevens LA.

I have only shot a 6.5x55 once and I really liked the (lack of) recoil on it. I like to shoot at the range and not feel like I am being beat up doing it.
