Been lurking around for a while trying to find my answers but not having much luck.

Rifle is a CL110 with serial A5xxxxx. From what I've been able to find this is a "1968ish" Savage but it's chambered in .25-06 and marked on the (24 inch) barrel as a "Series H". I thought I read in the forums here that this chambering wasn't available until the mid-70's.

Can anyone clarify this for me please?

Thanks!

Your gun was made mid 1970 and the 25-06 wasn't chambered in a Savage rifle till 1975 and even then it was the bull barreled varmint models so ya, it's been rebarreled.

Thanks for the response Mad Dog.

Makes sense to me. This one is a tapering barrel.

Will be fun to give it some TLC then take it out and see how it shoots. Poor thing has had some mistreatment over the years.

On that note, I also read on Savage's site about matching the last few numbers of the serial # to the number engraved on the bolt and making sure they match. This one does not. Does that indicate it's probably a Franken-Savage cobbled together or is this practice a more recent one?
