I have recently purchased a Savage .223 Model 112 single shot. It is built on a long action and has a 1 in 12 twist. I have lots of IMR4198 and 55 grain bullets. What is an accurate load with that powder and bullet weight? Thanks for your help.

What you just asked is:
Hi, I met a blonde today. Can someone tell me what she likes and what her family will think of me?

Mass produced rifles are game of moving tolerances, depending upon tooling wear. Grab a manual, look at there load and start at the bottom. Let YOUR rifle tell you what it likes; not some online stooge who doesn't have YOUR rifle.

Try between 41.5 and 42 grains and see how she shoots.

I just might do that.

You can look it up on Hodgdon web site,if you did this is what you would find 18.8g to 20.4g of Imr 4198 for a 55g bullet. Start at 18.8 and work up to the maximum. I usually work up 2 tenths of a grain at a time until I find the optimum load for my rifle. Of coarse you could go with the 41.5 to 42 like suggested above if you could figure out how to fit it all in the case, and somewhere in the back of my mind I'm thinking scope eye just might get it done.

Either going to need a very long drop tube of a hammer and punch. Either way, he would have found out soon enough. :o

OK then Try 21.5 and 22 grains. Hehe. I was loading 260's at the time and 40 something sounded good.
