I had been disappointed with accuracy results from a 30-06 savage take off barrel. I gave it a good cleaning using Bore Tech Eliminator and a Nylon bore brush. Yesterday, I got out to the range and got a 1/2" group with the barrel. The only thing I can say is I didn't realize how bad the bore was fouled. When cleaning, I followed the directions and the patches just kept coming out with blue stain. I had visions of having to buy a new aftermarket barrel. I now have 3 take off barrels( 270, 7mm Mag, 30-06) and in time will give them all a going over.

Savage Factory barrels are known for good accuracy but unfortunately also bad copper fouling as well. If this is a bench gun...you may want to try lapping it but if a hunting rifle I'd just leave it knowing I'd likely have to give it a thorough cleaning every 20 shots or so

?Big, this is a sporter barrel. Intent is to use for Deer and such here in PA. The accuracy now exceeds minute of deer certainly.

perhaps there is a problem with the translation but just how small are Pennsylvania deer if a 1/2 inch group exceeds minute of deer?

Earl, I did garble that up didn't I. I meant that the accuracy is certainly better than minute of deer.

Hehehe if they are that small then maybe you need to come down here and hunt squirrels so you can get more meat per shot. Thought maybe my brain was going out and i was reading it wrong.

You could try the tubbs final finish ammo he sells and you can get it at midway also. It fire laps the barrel and when you are done it wont foul as bad. I did it to a 308 f-class that just was too finiky and hard to clean up. When I was done it shot very tight groups.
