Pre 68 264 win mag 110l

I'm looking at buying this 110l the owner has owned if for 10 years and shot about 3 boxes through it. It has a 5 digit serial number with no letter which I'm thinking means it is pre 68. It has a nice wood stock with good checkering and he is asking 400. Is there anything I should know about this or look for? I am very familiar with the newer ones but wasn't sure if one this old has anything special to look at

Just know up front that it won't accept prefit barrels like the newer Savages without upgrading the bolt assembly to the newer style. The older Savages had a recessed bolt face. If you're buying it for what it is, then you'll be fine.

I'll probably pass , that along with too many other variables in a hot cartridge and old rifle there's no point

Maybe I don't have any idea what I'm talking about but $400 seems too high. Wouldn't $300 be more like it?

If it's all original I'd grab that up in a heartbeat as you rarely ever come across one (in 12.5 years of running this site this is the first one I can recall anyone actually mentioning an original .264 Mag, and being a lefty makes it even more rare). Savage offered the 110 chambered in .264 Win Mag from 1963-1970 but it was never a big seller as most opted for the more popular .243 Win, .308 Win, .270 Win, 7mm Rem Mag or .30-06 Spfld. No need to be concerned about the strength of the action either as they're just as strong as today's actions.

If nothing else buy it and resell on here to someone who will appreciate it for what it is - I'm sure there are one or two lefties around here who would be interested in it.

Just found this site looking for info on this very rifle. Have wanted a 264 Win Mag for 30 yrs. Have only seen one, in that time, that I could afford. Until recently. I'm a righty but picked up a 110L in 264 at an auction. Did pay $400 for it. Super shape! Came with a Weaver V-9 and sling. Fits just fine as the stock has the same inletting on both sides. Tang safety with no cheek pc or palm swell to worry about. Love it!
