I got my RB down to 2.7 oz on my .223
I don't let anyone shoot it. The rest of my Savages I have set at 8oz with the accutrigger

How carefully do you have to handle it when cocked? Does it ever just "go off"without a bump? Or , just not catch? I have a SSS trigger, the $100 one, set at about 1 1/2 # and it slamfires if I am not real careful. I would like a <4oz trigger, but would like the adjustment so I can raise it, I understand the SSS Comp is not adjustable to 2-3 lbs.

I'm partial to the SAV-2. Mine are set around 12-14 oz. Very nice for the money.

That would be low enough for my needs. Too bad the previous owner didn't go with the sav-2 instead of the sav-1. This trigger is very nice but just not light enough.

SSS Comp trigger is very nice.

Neither the RB Sav-2 or SSS Comp trigger will work with bottom bolt release models b/c those have too much "crap" in the mechanism to allow those triggers to function. Hard too explain, but the bottom bolt release mechanisms get in the way.

It is possible to convert it to top bolt release, though it would require milling the side of the action flat to make room for the top bolt release sear to operate up there.

You can convert a bottom release to a top release without having to mill anything on the action, I have two that have been coverted, just need top release lever from Savage.

^^^ really? I would do that for my two bottom release models in a heart-beat. Do you know the part #?

I dont remember the number but I will look it up this evening and post it, you do have to slightly bend the release, but not much all, but it is a tough piece of material to bend! here it is installed on My Dicks Sprting Goods Model 11 VT, that is highly modified.

Oh, don't worry about it if it's just the regular Accutrigger sear. I have those. I assumed it would not clear without milling the action. Thanks.

They won't clear without milling the action. If you try to bend one, they will break. If you are gonna bend one, heat the bend first.

Fred I realize you are the Master of Savages, BUT, I did not mill the action nore heat the part to bend it, I will pull the rifle apart when I get in this evening and send some pix of it. The sear release I used was form a older none accu trigger model, it had the flat top reciever, it was a 243 youth model, the had the barrel drilled and tapped for iron sights and a wooden stock. I will also get the part number and serial number of the rifle. Also I was not trying to be A$$ with my comment, I highly respect your work, you have timed and trued three of my guns already and you have two more of my Model 12 Target Actions in your shop as we speak. But the process I quoted did work.

Here are the photos of my Model 11 that was converted to a top release, the sear is P/N 103871 from Savage, all I did to get it to clear the receiver was slightly wedge a large screw driver down between the lever and sear, it doesn't have a ton of clearance, but it has enough, as you can see daylight between the receiver and the sear/lever, it does not rub either, and the Bell Carlson didn't have to be modified either.

Seems good to me. I would tink Fred's advice to heat the bend of the sear first is good advice so as to be LESS likely to break it when bending it. Thanks, all.

No doubt you have the exception to the rule. From looking at the pictures, that sear is some kind of ******* version.....it has been modified to have the corner rounded off, like the new ones but is is definetly pre-accutrigger. All of the new stampings have the corner rounded off and have the offset in the center for the accutrigger. They started using these late 2013. There are only 2 versions, the standard and the 6 oz. version which has a dimple below the thumb pad.
Glad it worked out for you, but it is definetly not the norm.

Well sometimes being lucky pays off, when I decided to try the conversion, I just grabbed the closest top release Savage in my safe and got the serial number, ordered the part from Savage and this is the end results, I believe the rifle I used is a Model 10 GY Youth.

Uncle, did you have to replace the sear spring as well or is it the same one for the bottom bolt release?

Used the same spring, UNTIL I added a Rifle Basix SAV-II trigger. then I had to switch to a older style spring.

Thanks! I might be doing this conversion myself in a bit. I have the sav1 trigger now but cannot get it below 2 pounds safely...might have to go to the sav2

I couldn't spend any money on my guns for a while so I just got the SAV-2 recently and have it set at 1lb exactly. This trigger is great. Breaks very clean. Thanks for the advice, it worked out well.
