Want to rebarrel. Need opinions on calibers.

I have an older Model 110FP in .308 win. Thinking of rebarreling to a different caliber. I only shoot paper and the local range is 100 to 300M.
What is your opinion on the most accurate chambering compatible with this boltface? I was looking at the 6mm BR. Is there a better option out there?

6mmBR is really where it is at but just about any caliber will work for that range. Since 300M is max range you may look into a slower twist barrels to shoot the flat base bullets the best.

So about a 1in13 rate for an 80 gr bullet? Or a 1in8 for 100 gr and up? Are there accuracy benefits in either weight ranges at the distances I'll be shooting?

Well most of the short range bench rest guys use the lighter weight flat base bullets. The advantage to you since you will only be going 300M will be a very fast light bullet. The long range guys like myself go with the heavier weights to better buck the wind that becomes much more of an issue at longer ranges. The 6br flat out shoots. The 6br brass is usually Lapua and is sold by the hundred cases. You could pick up used brass for cheap but it will have seen better days. If you want to shoot standard cartridge the 243 is a fantastic cartridge as well. You questioned is there a better cartridge out there. I think you would be hard pressed to find it for your range.

6BR is a great paper punching and also a great varmint round. Recommend the 1/8 twist so you can shoot anything up to the 105 gr bullets. A lot of folks shoot this round to 600+ yards with good success.

Single shot or repeater action? You will probably need to use a single shot follower on an older staggered feed action. My 6BR that started out as a 308 center feed action will feed one round from the magazine, but will not feed two reliably. If you have a DBM I believe that Savage makes a 6BR mag.

The best thing to do is just get the 1in8 twist and then you can shoot any 6mm weight you want. It wont over stabilize any bullet. Just stay away from hornady spsx bullets as they have a very thin jacket.You will love the 6 br as it is easy to tune and shoot.

Love my 6BRNorma 1:8. Shoot 300 and 600 F- Class. Very easy to load for. Very little recoil.

6mm or 6.5 caliber​ would be perfect for your needs.

8 twist 6br, or 6BRX, or 6Dasher.

If I were shooting a 6.5, 8 twist again with 120 or 123 grain bullets.

Now, suggested optimum barrel lengths and contours? I will only be carrying it from my vehicle to the bench so weight really isn't a factor.
