Look into the Mueller line of scopes.

If you buy Mueller make sure it from an authorized dealer, keep the reciept as they won't even tal to you if everything isn't perfectly in order.

I have an off-the-wall recommendation. Look into the Zastava MP22 Precision (http://www.zastava-arms.rs/en/civilianproduct/smallbore-rifle-mp-precision).
They are as well finished as any .22 you will find. With Norma match ammo, one of mine will shoot .40 MOA at 50. My Savages and CZ's can't compete with the repetitive
accuracy of the Zastava. No special care other than the usual break in was given to them. The price tag (with premium grade walnut stock) was $289 plus tax and DROS. Just something to ponder :)

I ordered a Savage MKII BTVSS from Buds Gun Shop. I'll use a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x50 (30mm) until I decide later on a dedicated scope for this rifle.

Thanks for the input.

PS: I've got plenty of bulk ammo to break this rifle in. I ordered some Norma Match and TAC 22 to try after break in. Any other recommendations of ammo to try for accuracy ?

Does anyone make an aftermarket 10 round or higher cap for the Savage MKII 22lr ?

My BTVLSS really likes CCI SV, it shots almost as good as the $25 Eley stuff.

I've never seen an aftermarket mag for a MKII, doesn't mean there isn't any. I bought two 10 round savage mags off e-bay and they've been fine.

And with a small mod Savage mags fit Anschutz rimfires.

Made my first trip to the range this morning and had the following struggles:

1. My bench was facing east and the sun was rising(7:30am).
2. Windy conditions (15MPH with gust up to 20MPH).
3. The LOP is 14.25" and I need 12.5" so I was struggling with consistent eye relief (easy fix).
4. The trigger pull is 2.5lbs but felt gritty and heavier (hope it smoothes out with some use or a trigger job will be needed).

I did manage several groups under 3/4" using 36 grain copper plated white box Winchester bulk ammo at 50yds. With tuning and the right ammo, I believe this rifle may be a tack driver, but only time and use will tell.

Here is a 5 shot group (measured .513" outside to outside) :

Put an Apachee trigger kit in it, money well spent IMO. Your rifle should start shooting better after you run 5-700 rounds through it. At least mine did.

I just ordered one from Dale of Apachee Triggers.

Thanks

After shooting a few hundred rounds, I customized her a bit:

Shortened the LOP to 12.5", Pillar and bedded the stock, added an Apachee Trigger kit (adjustable from 10oz-3lbs), and I mounted a SWFA SS 20x Scope. I also bought over 10 different types of ammo(match and CCI standard velocity) to try out.

I thought they were supposed to be unmodified "factory" rifles to qualify for the matches?

Try Norma Tac 22 or Norma match 22, $5.50 & 7.50 at Bullets.com

I bought some a while back on your recommendation. I've been tied up so I haven't had a chance to run 500-600 rounds before going into testing for accuracy.

Rimfire Rifle rule definition:

Any factory rimfire 22 long rifle bolt action rifle is acceptable. Aftermarket triggers, stocks and barrels as well as any type of optics are acceptable. Rifles with aftermarket barrels are not acceptable. Custom benchrest rifles are not acceptable. A benchrest rifle is defined as a rifle with a custom action that is not normally sold by the manufacturer as a complete rifle. It is a single shot rifle with no provision for a magazine.

PS: This is my club's current rules which are subject to change (being challenged by members).

After trying various types of ammo from Match, standard and high velocities. Norma Match 22 performed the worst with groups of 1.34" -1.50". CCI standard velocity and Tac-22 performed the best. Both (if I do my part) are capable of consistant (repeatable) tack driving accuracy. Down below are the average 10 shots groups:
