Hello. Im looking to get a .204 and am stuck between a Model 25 thumbhole and a 12FV. The 25 is IMHO BEAUTIFUL and I like the idea of a removable box magazine, which is why Im leaning towards the 25. My only concern is barrel heat. IS the 12fv's barrel a thicker bull barrel?

The local shop has a 25 on hand that I can inspect but no 12FV's around. Thanks guys!

With the 12fv you can get into the BrotherHood of the Barrel Nut and start swapping out barrels and calibers, with the 25 you can't.
If you are going for looks then may I suggest the model 12 vlp with the thumbhole stock, it is more money but you get all you want from the factory, going with a fv you have to try and find the replacement stock. Been there and done that more than once,it is easier to buy from Savage.

I have both the 25 and a m12 BTVS in 223, both shoot .500 or less at 100 yards I've never seen much difference in accuracy concerning barrel heat however to touch the 25 is slightly warmer, I target shoot only so not a problem, perhaps in varmint hunting shooting a high number of round you may experience some difference. Both are excellent rifles.

To answer your question, yes the FV is a varmint weight barrel, not full bull, but heavy. Bill

Thanks guys. One more quick question, are there conversion kits to make the 12fv's inner box into a detachable magazine?
