Ptg bolt body finish?

Are these hardened steel? And is it a must to finish them so they don't rust (says they come in the white) or is it fine with oil etc?

I have a couple of them and they are unfinished. I wipe down with oil after each use, one is about 3 years old now and no rusting.

I sent mine to sinarms when I had him build and install a barrel, it rusted. I buffed the rust off and oiled it. No trouble now.
