IMR 8208 XBR and 75-80gr 223?

Would like to know if any of you 223 guys use this powder in your 223 in the 75-80gr projectiles. Fixing to start shooting f/tr and I have a few pounds of it to try out.Thanks.

That powder is very close to Benchmark. Fairly fast for that weight bullet. I went to Hogdgons load data web page and found some info. Nosler tapers that powder off at the 64 grain projectile. All I got. I use it for 52 grain sierras and 155 in the 308.

It works very well with 75/77's
Many including me use an over book charge of 23.4 being very common and very accurate but a lil tough on brass on occasions.
It is also quite temp stable in 223 loads.

Thanks SteelHead I guess your the only one I have the berger 1st edition and they list this powder for their bullets from 60-90 I will be using with the 80gr. was just hopeing to hear more about this powder with the heavier 223 bullets.

Good news for me. I know where a bunch is. When the R15 is gone I will give it a try. If it is temp stable why is it tough on brass "on occasions"?

It's probably because he's using an "over book" charge of the powder. The resulting higher pressures associated with hot charges tends to be hard on brass, regardless of the powder type used.

Hodgdon web site shows loads all the way up to the 90gr pill.

I've gone through about a pound and a half so far in my Model 12 bvss in 223 and find my groups have tightened up considerably. I'm currently shooting 50 to 55 gr. pills, Hornaday, Nosler, Sierra at 100 yds, but just got a shipment of 69 gr Sierra Match Kings and 69 gr. Nosler Custom Competition HPBT to try out at 200 and 300 yds. I was using IMR 3031, but it seems a bit too temperature sensitive in my 223.
The Hornaday manual has no recommendation for the 69 gr in the 223 Rem section, but I did find other sources for load info, including on these pages.

I did my development in 90 to 100+ degrees and never blow primers are anything like that.
It is pretty **** stable as my drops change very little in winter.
8208xbr and Varget are the only powders I load hot with as they seem to not get spooky.
Of coarse you have to ensure new lots of powder behave when your loading on the hot side.
My 8208 load doesn't wreck brass after one load but primer pockets do go south after 4 shots or so with most brass.
My beloveded w748 WILL get spooky when pushed.

I use 8208 with berger 73g match bullets with great results in my 12fv, can't remember the charge but somewhere around 23g. My 12fv has a 9 twist barrel so 73g bullet is as heavy as i have tried thus far but wouldn't hesitate to give it a try
