Kind of hard on barrels due to powder capacity. BUT....rather accurate.

Back to my checklist of a new to me caliber - cost of dies and brass. 284 brass can be hard to find and expensive.

I will have to look up some of my data but I know I broke 3350fps w/107 SMK's (very hard on brass!!)

I shot mine most accuratley at around 3150 with H4350. Only got 800rnds out of it in F-class but in a hunting rig I would expect maybe 1200 before the accuracy got too bad. Mine was a 27inch Lilja 3groove.

Mine was very accurate and shot like a laser at 1000yds but when it went bad it went REALLY BAD! accuracy droped like a lead balloon!

I switched to a 6-250AI and started pushing 107s @ 3100fps with 10 or so less grains of powder.(31inch barrel)

My local shop has Redding Dies and Lapua 6.5-284 brass in stock along with a 6mm-284reamer :o
I'm gonna keep kicking it around, I got a 28.5" 3groove 6BR Pac-Nor that screaming to be reamed out to something else.Maybe I'll just sell it off and do something else.

I have a Model 12 F-Class in 6.5 x 284 NORMA and love it for F-Class.

Use the 142 gr. Sierra Match King.
51.2 gr. of 4831SC gets me 2920 ft./sec. your mileage may vary.
Use Lapura brass. Have reloaded the some of the brass 4 times now and no visable issues with case neck, etc.

First barrel last 1,000 rounds. Worth it in my opinion

Better show me a picture of a GOOD helmet and some GOOD leather before this purchase is made.

My 6mm284 has a shorter barrel and is throated short so a 95 grain Berger will fit in the mag box. (short action- big mistake)
I prefer Norma brass but I have quite a bit of neck turned win brass as well. Haven't tried Lapua brass, but I hear it's the bomb.

If you decide to go the route of the 6mm284, I have a couple extra sets of dies, one of which is a Redding S-Type. They might be available for trade or borrow.....

H1000 is one of my favorite powders up through 95 grains, although Supreme 780 an Retumbo are supposed to be better in the heavy stuff.

I am curious if the new RE17 would be a good fit.......

FWIW, when my barrel is toast it wont likely remain a 6mm284. Probably a 243AI would be next. Maybe a 6XC.
