Ok so just rebarreled a 110 to a 22-250. Trying to find best oal for my load. I tried using a spent case and the bullet I'm wanting to use but it's not working. Doesn't always push bullet back. The bullet moves in case with enough neck tension to hold in place what am I doing wrong. Using 53 grain hornady v-max. I also rechecked chamber with go-no-go gauges.

Buy the hornandy oal gauge is the best way. You'll also have to buy the modified case.

Or the old school method involves sawing a split line into a casing color the bullet with market start it in then chamber the combo.
Unlock the bolt and use a Dowell to tap out the bullet but not nearly as accurate as buying the correct tools

I think I'll go ahead and just order the hornady deal and pick it up from midway usa, it's only a 5 min drive from work.

Wow lucky you!

You'll need a bullet comparator and a set of calipers to go with the oal gauge and modified case.

Really is easy with the right tools

Yep I'm going to pick them up tomorrow at lunch. Hopefully it will be as easy as you'll say.

It is. Once you get the oal write it down along with what bullet and rifle it belongs to.

Then you can chart out -.010 off the lands -.05 -.09 -.13 -.15 and do a seating test.

Narrow it down from there.

My last 22-250 like it at factory spec like .170 jump

tundra, my 22-250 likes the 53s with just .005 jump!

.005 is the closest I would ever load. Tried .003 once in the creedmoor. She would either bughole or be off by 1.5"

I take that back... apparently she did that at .005 as well lol

.8 looks the best to me on your target. Is that with the factory barrel. Mines a factory varmint contour. Hopefully she's a shooter.

Howdy from the Sacramento area.

My 12 FCV 1-12 twist likes the following offsets:

Hornady 40 gr V-Max ballistic tip #22241 : -0.010 from lands

Nosler 55 gr Varmageddon FBHP #17235 : -0.050 from lands

Sierra 40 gr Blitzking #1440 : -0.050 off lands

Best of luck with your load development.
