Hello all, I have a model 11 in .223 non accutrigger, non accu stock with a sporter barrel, and was looking to buy a used heavy barrel off a model 12, will the barrel work Iin my action? I apologize if this is a stupid question, but in new to this.

the barrels come in 2 varieties...

small / standard shank (90% of them)

and

large shank (the rest)

currently, the WSM chambering will normally be large shank, as will those coming off of target actions. You need to check the diameter of your action where threaded and then you'll know. I can't remember the diameter of standard, but its avail somewhere here. check FAQ's

I am certain that the OD of the action will reveal nothing. The only real way is to measure the barrel threads with a caliper or micrometer. There are a few indicators like the length of the barrel nut, but to be sure measure it . There are some model 12's that are the larger thread. There is a high probability that yours is a small thread. Ask the seller what his is.

Thanks, RObinHood. I was not clear. I did not mean to suggest the OD of the action woud tell you anything. Measure the ID of the THREADS of the ACTION.

I think keeping with the OD measurements is probably the soundest advice. It is the standard language. Unless you keep a machinist handbook in your pocket.
