Fox man, I called Hornady's customer support line several months ago and asked their opinion on the A MAX as hunting bullet. The support technician I talked to said, unequivocally, that "Hornady does not recommend the A MAX bullets for hunting because of their unpredictable expansion characteristics. They were made for target shooting." Before being told this by Hornady, I had shot a couple of small predators, fox, raccoon and coyote, with the A MAX, and the bullets punched nice, neat, FMJ-like holes in them. My personal preference is the V MAX, although it can very destructive if you are a hide hunter.

I like A-max bullets a lot for steel and flesh.....they might not be a hunting bullet but they sure play the part when you ask them to.

I used 100gr 260 AMax for Pdog loads and they were explosive out to 800 yards.

Fixed it for you.
1 - what is "as good"? They won't be as consistent in expansion, but will be every bit as accurate or more.
2 - .... alright
3 - at the same velocity and weight, they carry the same energy. One is designed to yardsale instantly, the other is designed to fly true. How they expend that energy is different.
