I am searching for a more effective .223 round for medium sized game out of my model 11VT. Research pointed me to the 60 grain Nosler partition. I picked up a box and started loading some test rounds with H335. Nosler has a 2.260 COAL. That is way too long for my chamber. I loaded up a couple startout loads at 2.200. This is the COAL I have been using for the Hornady and Sierra SPs in 55 grain, something like 10 to 20 thou off the lands.

Anyone have any experience with this bullet in .223 out of a bolt action? Bringing the COAL down this far I am concerned about pressure rise from reduced capacity.

you might want to take a look at the 62 grain Swift Scirocco.

I've used the 60gr Partition with both H335 and Varget. It is a very accurate load for me. If I remember right, I loaded it to book length for my results, +/- 2.260". Shot out of my Stevens 200 .223.

My Ruger 77 wont shoot Nosler Partitions (60) worth beans. I tried 3x last summer-short/long and couple charges in each. If you need Partitions go to Noslers site and check on blems/overruns....cheaper by quite a lot.

You might be able to seat closer to the lands than 0.010" to 0.020" without getting into trouble with pressure and possibly even get a bit better accuracy.

Seating deeper will indeed raise pressuees, but nowhere near as much as when the bullet starts out jammed into the lands

So, follow the cardinal rule for developing new loads, even those published by reputable sources, and start low, working up in increments of about 1% of the charge weight. Lean toward starting 10% low when making changes like deep seating or trying to touch the lands.

Looks like it might be prudent to run the test loads by my buddy's Chrony. I also need to get a precise reading on exact length that the bullet touches the lands with this bullet then back off by something like .005.

I've had good sub MOA accuracy in my Stevens 200 chambered 223 Rem with the Sierra 63 grain SMP's. That load has been "bang/flop" for the three deer I've shot with it using the good ole neck shot.

The 65gr GameKing was designed specifically for use on kangaroo's in the Australian market. As such it hits like a cinder block and puts just as big of a dimple in a 1/2" thick steel plate as an 80gr Nosler Custom Competition bullet.

+3 Most accurate bullet out of my .223. Even more accurate than the 69 gr match bullets!

I recently tried the 65 grain Game King in my Stevens 200 and have to say it's just as accurate as the 63 grains SMP and has better ballistics out to 200 yards.

Have just started load development of 60gr Nosler, but this particular node looks promising. At 1.970" bullet is .009" off lands in hog hunter. Ogive measurement will give you the best consistency.

I would like to try the 65gSGKs but haven't found any to order.

My only experience with a 223 on game is my daughter used a 64gr Nosler bonded performance on a large doe at 95 yards. DRT. This was from a 16" barrel AR.

Will a 1-12 twist stabilize the 65 GK?

per Sierra's note "Please Note!! This bullet requires a 1x7" to 1x10" twist barrel" :(

Will a 1-12 twist stabilize the 65 GK? With your twist rate, give the Sierra 63 grain semi-pointed bullet a try.
