Does anyone have a reduced load for a 223, that is accurate? Looking for a hopeful max of 2500-2800fps with a varmint bullet, preferably 55gr or under.

25gr of W748 with a Nosler Balltip V 55 is quite mild and accurate I many rifles.
LC case and CCI small rifle primer.

H4895 is the best powder for reduced loads, you can reduce down to 60% of max load, so for your application a 223 holds 28gr of powder so you can go down to 17gr so 17 to 20 grains of H 4895 will put you in the 2500 to 2800 FPS range.

Google search for James Calhoun reduced .223 loads.

I have tried the H4895, and can indeed get the velocities I desired, but accuracy was poor in my rifles. Will look into the other loads mentioned. Thanks

I've used Blue Dot with good success. I'll have to check my notes when I get home, but I believe I was using very light bullets, like 36 Starkes. From what I recall, it was very accurate at reasonable ranges.

+1 for Blue Dot...but BE CAREFUL and watch for double-charges.

Looked at my notes, was for a 222, sorry. FWIW, the 222 load was 8.0 of BD, 2190 fps. At 100 yards it shot 2.5" under my normal load, or about 1" low from POA. About 150-175 yd gun, plenty accurate for that. Just used it for yard vermin.......

I'm gonna have to get some Blue Dot. Unless 22LR miraculously becomes available. That's my purpose for these loads, to replace my 22 ammo, or sub for my 22 WMR. I have both, but am almost afraid to use them cause I can't find ammo (that I can afford) to replace them.

Been using 17 gr RL 7 on 55,s . Little goes along way. It's worked for me. Gotta be careful though. Faster burn rate.

I don't have a load for55s. I have loaded Sierra 40 gr HPs w/ RED DOT 6 grains. Don't ask where I got that info but at 50 yrds out of a Ruger 77-it will keep em all in nickel size off the bench. I have them marked velocity about 1700. Check my box of ammo and I better load some more these cold days.
