I have this stagger feed WSM that I have been fixing up. It has the controlled round feed bolt head. I am looking for experience on the best approach for fixing the excessive drag as the bolt passes the magazine. When it is empty the drag is effected even more so by the follower. I have inspected the small lips that hang in the action and they appear to be square. The cartridges don't seam to sit overly high but maybe they are. Would bending the feed lips down be the best approach since the mounting/retaining points look to be square. Also how much wiggle should the empty mag have with the action out of the stock?

It's not rubbing on the magazine, it's rubbing on the ejector, and there's not much you can do about that.

Thanks Fred, I took the ejector out. The mag was loose with the bolt open and tight as the bolt head drug across the lips. I bent the feed lips down, after that it got smooth. Only problem is, now I cant insert the rounds. I think I will bend them back to where they were and restore function. I may try to adjust the tabs slightly by bending the upwards. I have a 308 magazine that I may try to compare the differences. Thanks again for the input.

A lot of times the tabs are bent out of square, positioning the whole magazine too high or too low.
