So I was making a routine trip to gander mountain to get some 209 shotgun primers. I get up to the register and they ask my birthday (I'm 18) and they inform me that I not of legal age to purchase these. The part that bewilders me is that I can go back in the store and buy as many boxes of shotshells (with the same primers in them) as I want. Is this a federal law, a state law, or just a gander mountain store policy?

I don't have an answer for you, but that it is just another reason to shop at mom and pop gun shop.

They do carry a very limited selection of reloading components. I'm sure it would be nice, if they would let me purchase them!!

Id be asking if it is a government law of some type that prohibits you from buying them or is it their policy.
If its the latter, id be explaining to them by letter how your old enough to vote and your old enough to fight for their
right to be in buisness. And your also old enough to decide where your going to be doing buisness for the rest of your life.

They are ASSuming you are going to load pistol ammo, I suspect.

I may have to. I have been researching it for a few days now and I have been unable to find any law regarding age

they have a sign saying you have to 18 to handle weapons and similar sign in from the of the powder cabinet, probably state law or liability curd.
I think I also saw handgun ammo > 21 yrs....

I wouldn't stop at Gander Mountain for any reloading supplies, too awful expensive. They only want to sell clothing and footwear. Go someplace where people want you and your business.
