.300 Win mag to 30-06?

Never owned a Savage before. I have a chance to buy a very good 111 Trophy Hunter XP in .300 Win mag. All my other rifles are 30-06. If I don't like the .300 is there anything else I need in order to swap, other than the bolt head and barrel?

I would think some work on the magazine feed lips would be in order too, since the cartridges are different sizes.

I think your good. I went from 7mm RM to 7mm08 and didn't touch the mag lips. YMMV

I will double down on what Ironworkerwill said. I went from 7 mag to 270 and 30-06 without a hitch. Mine was a stagger feed blind mag and I have gone back and forth with no mag work at all.
