I've been looking for brass for my Model 10 in a .243 Winchester. I'm sure I could mail order some but locally I bought some Winchester VarmintX for the 243. I can reload the brass when I shoot them. I bought the ammunition in the 58gr polytip. Looked similar to the 58gr VMAX bullets I bought. Anyway, the literature on the box indicates that this round has a muzzle velocity of 3850 fps which sounds a little high to me. Anyone know what powder Winchester uses in this factory round? I've had good luck reloading Winchester brass so I'm anxious to get moving on this reloading project ..... thanks...

My Savage 243's absolutely love the 58gr VMax. There's something about that 9.25:1 twist rate that works really well at that weight. Velocities don't seem that far off to me, I get 4005fps with a 55gr Nosler. Whatever powder they're using, you can pretty much depend that it's custom blended and not available to buy, the best you can do is come close.

Yea I'd have to agree with you. I'm sure it might be a custom blend. Can't wait to get some loaded up. I'll have a look at the Nosler's :-)

Thanks for your reply ... Tony
