Went to the LGS to look at a 338 lupua and came away with a case of sticker shock I know the lupua cannot be built off a regular long action because of pressure issues . I have seen some 338 edge built on long actions can these be made to feed from a mag ? Are there other 338 options to chose from ? thanks jw

What will you be using the "338" for? You could go 338 Winchester, 338-06, 338-300WM, 338 Edge. If you want to build an ELR Rig expect to spend $$$$ to get the best results.

338 on a budget: Savage "hog hunter"/ 338 win/ 20"/repeater........$450
.
338 magnum performance on a budget: hog hunter $450/selling barrel and stock= $350-
+SSS= fred sled single shot adaptor=$20
+SSS= HD recoil lug=$30
+Choate= tactical stock=$220
+Ross Schulers= 3-port muzzle brake=$40
+Ace hardware= Deep head allen screws for action=$1.50
+Apache Gunworks= heavy Stainless 338 edge barrel, threaded both ends=$250
Still $911.50, Add $100 +/- for a hand lapped blank.
Still needs a base, rings and scope worthy of the task at hand.
.
Great big, mean, kill anything or shoot little tiny precision groups with great big bullets.................Priceless.

The new 112 Magnum Target in 338 Lapua should end up with a street price just over $900.

A good scope - $1-3,000
100 pieces of 338 brass - $250-300
1000 primers - $30
dies - $250-300
shell holder - $8
1 pound of power, which covers 95-100 shots - $25
each projectile = $0.70-$1.50

Is your anus bleeding in fear yet? It's expensive.

Has anyone heard what twist the 112 Magnum Target is going to be?

I've owned 2 Savage Lapua's and my shooting buddy still has one. I can honestly say my .338 Edge barrel from Jim at Apache out shoots all 3 Savages with ease and I only have $700 into the entire rifle, not counting optics. I built mine as a single shot, so I was able to save $200-$300 over my brothers similar build which is a repeater. The only issue you will have with a .338 Edge repeater is that your bullets will be seated pretty deep(way past the shoulder) unless you go with very light bullets.

so to build a single shot I would need a 110 action, mag bolt head, 338 edge barrel, single shot follower, brake, and a good stock .Does it make any difference if the action is center feed or stagger feed .what length of barrel and profile would you get ? Except for the barrel and brake I think I have everything

I know they (someone) makes single shot sleds for the staggered feed but I have not used them, all my single shots are using center feed actions.
Most guys go with a 30" barrel......I have two 24" one varmint, one bull and one 26" bull=heavy. If you go 30" better opt for a varmint or get a hand cart to carry it.

I just filled the magazine cutout with the same steel epoxy I use for bedding my actions.
