I recently bought a Savage 110 30-06 with the serial number 359**. I am assuming it is quite old but cant figure out the year it was made. I tried measuring the barrel by putting a dowel rod into it until it stops and it comes up 20". I don't see any early Savages in the Blue Book with that barrel length. It has a plain Monte Carlo stock no checkering. It has a blind magazine with metal on the bottom of stock. I was wanting to customize it a bit but I am thinking it might be too old. Any help would be much appreciated.

It was made in 1963 and actually the model 110E came with 20" barrels that year, looks like it's legit.

OK Thanks .. I guess I was just confused because the Blue Book only list a 22" and 24" barrel length option for the 110E. Are there many parts (triggers, stocks, barrels) that can be upgraded on these old models?

I think you can upgrade the stock and the trigger but the barrels are a real bugger due to something different with the early bolts.

Any recommendations on a good trigger for this model?

I'd go with one from Sharp Shooter Supply but I'd call and make sure it fits the early guns before ordering it just to be sure.

All of the aftermarket triggers on the market won't fit the early 110's like yours. Their trigger group height (top to bottom) is about 3/8" or so shorter than the 1966 and up variety. The trigger would mount up fine, but would bottom out on the trigger guard when you tried to reinstall the stock.

Fortunately most of these early guns had the 3 or 4 screw triggers so they're easily adjustable to an agreeable pull weight.
