Hey guys, just bought my first savage yesterday. I knew they were great guns, but I didn't know how interchangeable they were, let alone affordable. Iv been shooting remington 700's for awhile, so I figured I'd give savage a try after being dissatisfied with remingtons.

I scored a beat up model 11 in .223 with a chipped and scratched wooden stock, some cheap rings and bases, and just a filthy filthy action, for $100. I'd post pictures of I could, I never read the rules but I'm assuming it's 50 posts?

My plan is to change out the barrel, bolt, stock, and eventually trigger for my 6.5 creedmoor build.

What are most of you guys using for barrels? Shilen? I would like a spiral fluted bolt, never had one but I like the way they look, I figured I could splurge a little on a bolt being I am starting with $100 gun vs one of my Remington's I already own. I would like to do a timney trigger, but we will see.

id like to keep it a lightweight sporter with maybe a slightly larger contour'd barrel. Mainly a deer and antelope gun.

Thanks, rusted

Welcome - check out the barrel section. A few forum sponsors offer quality barrels at reasonable prices.
