I have a savage 12fv, heavy bbl in 204 ruger. Have a 22-250 and 7mm08 varmint light contour bbls and bolt face. My question is should I get rid of the whole rifle or build off of this action? Want the variety of calibers listed but don't want to pack the heavy bbl around to hunt. Would the varmint contour look or function funny in the heavy bbl stock? Keep the action and get another stock, will sell the 204 bbl either way. Would love insight to my problem.

Thanks!

Total opinion.
Lots of folks will think it looks funny if there is any gap larger than a dollars thickness between the barrel and stock.
I think those folks are nuts.
I'm all about function and from a strictly functional stand point: it will allow better cooling and therefor aid in accuracy and possibly even barrel life.
I like daylight around my barrels.
From a cosmetic perspective: I like it but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I thought the 12fv has a 26" light varmint/varmint contour barrel? So I doubt you will have an unsightly gap with your 22-250 and 7mm-08 light varmint barrels. I would use your current action and stock to build a switch barrel rifle. I would not expect much in weight savings if your 22-250 and 7mm08 LV barrels are also 26" tubes. The factory synthetic stock is going to be lighter than hardwood or laminated aftermarket stocks.
