Thinking of going to a 8 twist barrel instead of my 9 twist
which will allow me to shoot a little heavier bullet..Currently
I am using the 69 grain sierra with pretty good results..
But with the wind at the range,I am thinking a bit heavier
will help me with the scores..There should be nothing
any more than 400 yards at the most..

What are some of your opinions on this..I know there are
some of you that are far more advanced then I am or may
ever me..Thank you...:usa2:

Your 1:9 should work with 75/77 HPBT made by Hornady, Nosler, Sierra or Berger.

That said, a 1:8 would fully open up the world of the 75gr Amax, the best dang bullet for the price on the market IMO.

I had a 1:9 223 12FV that was a legitimate sub-half MOA shooter with the Hornady 75gr HPBT and 24.0gr Varget.

I say legitimate, because it was consistent enough at putting out sub-half inch 5 shot 100yd groups (and sub-1" 5 shot 200yd groups) that when it didn't, I knew it was me and not the rifle or load.

I was a moron to sell that barrel...

Who ever told you that simply does not know. Your current barrel may not like them but it will stabilize them. My 1:9 loves 77 grn SMKs.

Better to spend $30 on bullets before you spend $300 on a barrel.

I suppose your right..Might as well get me a box to try....Wonder if they would shoot
at a fast or slow velocity...all I have for powder is h4895 and some h322...??

My target action bull barrel 9 twist 223 liked the Berger 73HPBT just fine. The 80.5gn Bergers said on the box they required and 8 twist. The box was right.:nono:
