Does anyone know when Savage changed the LOP on the Axis? I looked at a Axis last Jan. and It was way to long
for me, but last night I looked at another one and it was just right. The only difference was this one had the new
adj. trigger.

Maybe you just had a growth spurt!

Axises run at about 14", maybe a hair longer. Is it possible that the more recent example was a youth model? Their LOP is about 13".

This was a Axis II in .223 with the Weaver scope.

I have both adult 14" and youth 13" as mentioned above.

Savage support told me 13.5 on the standard and 12.5 on the youth. To make sure I just measured both of mine and that does seem to be correct.

Have you newer rifles? I am thinking it may have changed with the newer, diamond-reinforced stocks someone else had mentioned. Mine are 2012-vintage at the latest and each has an LOP of 14".

Missed the newer stock part (mine are the older style). It would be interesting and a benefit if the newer stocks actually have less flex.

I have 3 Axis stocks, one from July, one from August and another that I purchased on Ebay in November. They all have the standard polymer cross sections, and measure the same at 13.5 LOP. When I get a chance will posts some pictures of how I am measuring. Perhaps, it is being done incorrectly on my part.

LOP is measured from center of the trigger shoe to the center of the recoil pad

All right, here's a puzzler for you. I measured the three factory stocks I have right now with some interesting results.

Rifle Caiber Manuf LOP
Axis 1 308 Win 03/2012 14.25"
Axis 2 270 Win 06/2012 14.25"
Axis 3 270 Win 04/2013 13.5"

The only other difference between the third rifle and the other two was that it was stainless, but these were all Plain-Jane Axises with 22" barrels. None were XP, HB, SR, II, or Youth models. They all have rectangular forearm ribs. The second two were from Cabela's.

I bought the youth model in 223 because I liked how it fit me compared to the regular model. Plus the shorter 20" barrel was a plus.

3 days ago, I acquired a Youth Model Axis in 243, and the LOP came in at 12.5''. Also, re-measured the others stocks and they are in fact 13.5''. All were manufactured this year, so it seems the 14.25 LOP maybe was a holdover from the Edge and the first few years of the Axis Models. Actually, this doesn't surprise me at all. Savage makes small changes to their models features all the time and makes it point NOT to make it known unless you are looking. For example, they changed the twist rate of the 7mm-08 from 1:9.5 in the standard Axis model to 1:10 in the Axis II, and you would not have known unless you were looking.

13.5 is the LOP on my standard Axis.
