Savage 260 loD accuracy.

Well I have a 12LRP in 6.5 CM and I shoot 140 amax in it very successfully. Under .5 MOA to be exact.
I acquired a model 10 predator hunter in 260 a month or so ago and have been trying to get the 140 amax to shoot in it
also. I can get it pretty decent, but not as tight as the CM. I found a great accuracy node at 2500 fps but that was just too slow. I looked up the Savage manual on line and noticed they test their 260's with 120 gr noslers. I was wondering if any of you had shot the 140's and 120's and noticed a big difference. I was trying to use the same bullet to ease my reloading, but I want accuracy. If I can get it with the 120 I will shoot it. They will work on anything the 140 will I guess!

Powder? Almost everyone I know has found a sweet spot between 42.5 and 43.0 grains of H4350.

I have a shilen barrel model 10 in .260 rem and even though it is an 8 twist , it really likes the lighter bullets for good clean accuracy out to 200 yds as that is as far out I can shoot.

i have a 260 that WOULD NOT shoot hornady bullets...powders tried,IMR4350,H4350,IMR7828,H4831sc,IMR4831,H1000, RL-22,RL-17,primers tried,CCI200,CCI BR-2,FED 210,rem 9.5,winchester LR,rem 9.5M...i was just about to give up on the hornady bullets in this barrel...last weekend i tried them with H hybrid 100V and a CCI-BR2 and heres what happened...

My 6.5 experience is limited to .260 Rem. Having said that, it was done with a 28-inch Shilen 8-twist bull barrel, so these comments are likely relevant to bflee's query.
120 AMAX did well. 140 AMAX did well. 139 Lapua did better than anything else.
My experience has been really good using both Varget and N150. Nearly all of the shooting was done in f-class midrange - 300 to 600 yards. Whenever something other than an x is shot, it's the shooter's (my) fault.
The 139-140 bullets tend to really shine at distances past 4-500 yards.
Not to be a wise guy, but if I were to load 6.5 CMs, I would look at the recipe on the box. I have heard it is hard to beat. The guys at Hornady, in concert with DeMille, put a lot of effort in to getting that recipe right.

My Creedmoor load mimics the factory load on the box and its great. Its the 260 I am having issues with. I did notice Savage tests the 260 with nosler ballistic tip 120's. I am gonna try some some and see what happens. Thanks guys!

I would try 38.0 grn of Varget. This won't be a speed demon but o bet it shoots good. I have a 27" 8 twist .260 that shoots 140 Amax into .5" groups @200 yds w/43.9 grn of RL17. This is a pretty warm load so work up to it for safety.

39.3gr Varget is a great load in the 260 with 120 NBT or 123 Amax.

Not as fast as H4350, but accurate.

Not everybody is a fan of this but with Hornady bullets they ALWAYS shoot best in my rifles when seated into this lands a bit. Sierra has been the opposite, never could get em to shoot consistently if they didn't have a jump. Something to consider that doesn't cost anything. Back your charge down a bit before you do seat them tight though then work up.

I have found similar results. My most accurate load shooting a 140 so far is at ~2590.
