Which Boyd stock do I need for my heavy barreled Axis .223

You'll need the short action version of whichever stock you're after, but all of Boyds' Axis stocks are designed for the original, light barrel. Sanding the channel open is easy, but the problem is that only a few designs available for the Axis (Pro Varmint, Platinum, and Heritage) can handle heavier barrels without looking a bit weird. Other designs, according to Boyds (http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/how-to-select-a-gunstock/barrel-channel-variations), "...will be safe to use but cosmetically unpleasing to look at."
