I heard about this show. I have an alarm set to remind me before it comes on Sunday. I love off road driving. I have driven vehicles, and camped out all over the world in my 28 years with the U.S. Army. My daily driver is a very capable 4x4 truck, with front and rear air lockers... and I have taken her wheeling on some rugged trails, not just a mud hole here and there. I'm planning to explore some of the more scenic parts of America in it while camping in the back under it's camper shell. I'm also on a forum called expeditionportal.com that deals with this kind of wilderness travel.

Thanks.

I caught the show. Good off road action. Makes me wonder how they get their fuel is such a remote area. Probably have it flown in for the show. That is some beautiful country up there. I would love to do that run, but as part of an expedition, not a race. I like slow and steady, with teamwork.

Yesterday started off easy enough. A little snow wheeling on trails in the woods.

We then discovered that 7 inch thick ice will support Jeeps, and Broncos, and GMC crew cabs, but not a Super Duty diesel.

Had to dig out tire size chunks of ice to save the oil pan. Too late for the steering stabilizer.

The ice was thick enough to support every rig out there.... except mine. I guess I'm the designated trail whale.

What does your rig weigh? it must have been those studded tires ;-)
My 08 duramax weighs nearly 7400lbs with full diesel and chunky u know what.

No tire studs, but she's over 9K in daily driver trim. Back has custom storage on both sides full of tools and camping gear.

Would an 06 rubicon count as a (decent) off road rig?
Lessons learned the (hard way). Planned mods like lockers dont count.
Even if 44 rears for front and back are laying in wait. ANY off road rig without lockers is just another 4 wheel drive and subject to
failure on the least bit of ice. REGARDLESS OF TIRES UNLESS STUDDED OR CHAINED.
My 79 cj7 was to my mind a good off road vehicle. And would be getting better after the addittion of the 44 rears and lockers.
But, loss of traction on a steep grade with just a trace of packed snow was enough for it to slide backward and over the edge on
a mountain road. Unfoutunatly my friend since our teen years was thrown out as the vehicle rolled and crushed as the vehicle rolled over him.
God only knows why i survived. Those who have posted here know full well what im talking about. But for others who think their 4 wheel drive
is bullet proof, think again because its a tragety waiting for the right place to happen without lockers or at the very least studded tires, and preferrably both.
And thats just for the normal driving around stuff, not what these guys are doing.

I am in the process of adding some skid plates to my dmax, need to add allusion filter shield before I head out for some fun.

Here is a pic from little off road fun in my buddies Ford gasser.

Yes. it runs the air lockers, in addition to running air tools or inflating tires. The switch above the tool box activates it. I have to get out to lock the hubs anyway, so I just do all 3 at once. That door under the compressor houses a separate battery for the compressor and inverter. It is isolated, but charged by the engine.
