Has anyone built a Rem/Age rifle on a Stiller Action. I had a 700 with a 5R barrel and I loved it but my son loves it too so I gave it to him. New Savage actions are hard to come by and stocks for Rem 700 are easier to get. I want to build a custom rifle and do most of the work if not all myself hence the Rem/Age. I hope Jim B can give me his 2¢ on this.

Shilen Actions are made by Stiller and threaded for Savage Prefits.

Stiller not Shilen. Stiller has way more options than Shilen does.

I know. Shilen actions are made by Stiller. It would be easier because they are already designed for Savage Prefits and on a Rem700 footprint.

That I didn't know LW thanks I'll inquire about that. That would save me some time. Would only have to fit the barrel nut in whichever stock I pick.

Yep I am thinking about going this route myself. They said 2-4 months if they have the blank in stock and 10-12 if they don't. Oh and I had contacted XLR Industries who verified it will fit in their chassis's systems without issue.

Yeah a chassis is something I am thinking about. It's a lil futuristic but would have everything I need. MDT makes a nice chassis for the Remington as well as Savage. It would be a true free float. I guess no more futuristic than my billet AR

My reason for wanting to go to a Chassis is simple. No bedding required and depending on choice the fit is extremely customisable.

I agree with that and I would be able to use detachable magazines like I want........

I got an e-mail back from Stiller they don't sell the action with Savage threads. Have to get it from Shilen for that option. Shilen is $25 less than the Stiller.

You want it from Shilen anyways because they use a floating bolt head system like Savage, so it's an easy transition.

"They are the only company we build with the Savage tenon. Yes, drop in for 700 [ejection port is a bit different]. Their knobs are threaded as well." I guess it's a Shilen then. Only part that sucks is I live in Texas and have to pay the sales tax on it.

Just read your thread. I have had several other customers build up rifles using both the Stiller and the Shilen versions of the Stiller actions. The ability to interface so well with the abundance of Remington 700 parts is always a plus.

I have a Stiller Tac 30; smooth and reliable so far. It is mounted in a Manners T4A stock with the mini-chassis and DBM ( I think this is made for them by Badger ), so no need to bed. Not a Rem Age, not yet anyway.

Charlie did you mount it with a barrel nut or did you do the traditional barrel mount?

No, mine is traditional. Whenever I need to change the barrel it will be a RemAge setup.

What's it weigh Charlie

Well the barrel nut gods got their way and it appears I am getting a 12 VLP DBM unfired from a buddy of mine. I'm still going to try a chassis system.
