Just picked up some 95grn SSTs to try in the .243. Has anyone had any experience with using this bullet on deer or antelope? How did it do? Accuracy potential? Any good loads, I have H4831 IMR 4064 IMR 4350 and Varget.

Thanks for any suggestions, Matt.

I've only used it once. Neck shot on a doe. It was very effective, but I don't think I'd be comfortable with that bullet if I had to penetrate bone. As I said, it put the doe down in her tracks, but the bullet fragmented big time.

Girlfriend shot a big doe at bout 225 with 95 bt right thru shoulder passed heart and blew other shoulder out didnt exit tho. That was in a stock sporter 243 factory load. Just thought the sst would do the same plus save a few pennies

Very accurate bullet out of my tikka t3 243. I have shot both deer and antelope with it. It is quite explosive but puts them down, I would aim for lungs instead of shoulders with this bullet. I have since moved to Barnes TSX which are also very accurate in my gun but do less meat damage.

That barnes tsx your shooting is that the 85gr tipped tsx? Is it effective at longer range? How bout thru bones?

85 tsx is hollowpoint, I have shot several deer with that bullet and only recovered one. The one I recovered entered front right shoulder with animal quartering toward me. it went through the shoulder, broke the opposite side femur and lodged just under the skin in the animals hind quarter. They have worked very well for me so far. I bought some 80 grain TTSX but havent shot any animals with them yet.

Finally found a nice set-up this past weekend. 33gr 4064 / 95 gr SST / CCI Lg Rfl / Winchester Brass / 10 thous. off lands. Rifle is my lil' brothers Savage Edge 243. We tried an assortment of loads with H4350 with no success.

I have no experience yet with the 95 gr SST, but the step dad used a 140 gr SST to take a nice doe this past year. I was impressed. Tons of internal damage and nice exit and entrance wound. DRT.

Best of luck!

I have had real good luck with them loaded with R17 &700 sps varmint
as said they are explosive bullets but never lost a deer.
one buck was looking at me 150yds away and put his head down
and I put it in the back bone right above the front legs and he fell
like a ton of bricks ,the bullet blew the back bone apart and lots of
damage inside chest with no exit and never found the bullet just small bullet parts.

Great bullet for whitetail. Shot a 180lb 8 point at 143yds with a perfect broadside shot. Enter the left shoulder blowing it to pieces, just liquefied the heart, lungs, destroyed the right shoulder and the bullet stuck in the skin of the right shoulder. The bullet weight was 41.5grs. Loading 41.0grs of H414, CCI 200LR, seated 20 thousandths off the lands in a Model 11. MV is 3020. I would recommend quartering shot to avoid the meat damage or just neck shoot them. The Remington Accutip and the SST are the same bullet made by Hornady.
Good luck!
