How to tell a “Long Action w/ a 3 Screw Trigger”

Folks, I’m considering building a "long action something”. And, I’ve grow quite fond of the 3-screw triggers.

My question: Is there anyway to tell a "long action w/ a 3-screw trigger" without removing the action from the stock?

I dont think that there is. The part of the trigger that you can see in the trigger gaurd looks identical.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping there was some correlation between s/n's or flat back vs round back or ?

I personally have only seen them on flat back actions.

As from the factory, yes, only one I've seen also.

However it is quite possible to put a 3-screw on the newer actions, so don't rule it out if the rifle appears to be modified in any way as you search the used racks. I have done it and it works quite well.

Thanks for the input folks! So to summarize, short of a modified round back action, savage only made 3-screw triggers in the flat back configuration.

How many other triggers were used in the flat backs? I haven't been at this build stuff long but I've seen a couple of what I'd call the 1-screw triggers that only have the safety screw (no sear or over-travel screws). Are there other configurations?

There are 1, 2, 3, and 4 screw triggers. The 3 and the 4 are essentially the same as the 4th screw just locks the trigger to its pivoting shaft for the most part. The 2 screw has the safety screw and an overtravel screw. The 1 screw just has the safety screw.

Don't overlook the 2-screw. With the ability to take up the overtravel some of them can be real darn decent triggers for hunting rigs, and if properly stoned to smooth surfaces they can be comparable to the 3-screw for feel.
