I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with this before?? I had a model 12 action chambered in .223 and wanted to re-chamber it to a .243 win well I order all new parts for the bolt such as baffle, bolt head, and such well when I installed everything minus the barrel the bolt was so tight so I sent it to Kevin at stockade guns and he had to time and true tat action to make it right.. Well i want to do this again but in a different caliber and don't want to run into the same problem of having to have it timed and trued just install all the new parts..

well if you are going to to change to a different caliber with the same bolt head you have no problem just screw on a new barrel and your good to go

I thought magnums had a different action?

If you're talking short action, yes, they have a different action.

Short action magnums were large shank.

You can make a .473" short action-small shank a magnum. Along with a magnum bolthead, you'll also need a short action magnum firing pin assembly.

The short action boltheads were different lengths between standard and magnum. The firing pin assembly's are not interchangeable.

What about long actions? Like a .270. Can I make a 300 Winchester Mag out of my .270 long action?

Thanks!

Long actions are easy. Everything swaps back and forth.

All you need is a magnum bolt head and barrel. I might even know where there is a barrel for cheap. ;D

My 338 Edge is built on a long action that started as a 308.

Did you bend the action when removing the barrel?

Did Kevin take you for a ride or something? Why did he have to time and true the action just to change a bolthead? I guess you musta warped it or something.
