Savage 110 5 digit serial number

Hello all,

I read this thread http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?20834-Savage-110-Date-of-Manufacture and I tried posting to it but it said that necro posts may not be the best thing to do.

I would like to know more about this rifle that I have had for over 25 years.
It is a Savage 110 7mm Rem mag with a serial number of 47037. It seems it is pre 1968

I love the early 110 bolt guns. By the serial number it should be pre 1966 I believe, but you need someone besides me to verify that for you. Is it stamped or cut checkered and does it have a raised rear sight boss?

That is definitely a first generation rifle. The trigger is quite different than later models, and the bolt head is different. These guns are not readily modded like the newer barrels. I have one in a left hand .25-06. Fortunately I am happy with it as is.
