New to the forum. Just did an axis rebarrel to 300 blackout and it went smooth. Now I want another. Has a 45 acp ever been done? Would you use a 30-06 axis for the donor? Or something different. Thanks jason

with the ballistics of 45 acp youd probably be losing volacity by the time it reached the end of the barrel. you sure you dont mean 45 long colt?

Definitely a 45 acp with a 16-17 inch barrel. Could also shoot 45 super in it as well.

Sub'ed... sounds intriguing. Any thread on the .300 BLK rifle?

The 45ACP or 45 Super can be done on a Savage, but only as a single shot. Also it should be said that if you build a 45ACP barrel you cannot shoot 45 Super in it, and if you build a 45 Super barrel you cannot shoot 45ACP in it. These type of barrels headspace on the case's mouth and due to the difference in the case lengths of these two rounds they cannot be interchanged.

As foxx said, the 450 Bushmaster is a much better choice as it feeds easily from Savage magazines and has a bit more thump to it, and it can be loaded down to subsonic levels if needed.
Jim at www.apachegunworks.com (http://www.apachegunworks.com) is the place to get a 450 Bushmaster, and I am sure he would make you a 45ACP or 45 Super if you really wanted.

I believe you are thinking about the 460 Rowland.
It has a slightly longer case.

45 Super has the same case length as 45 ACP and runs at lower pressures than a 460 Rowland.

If a 45 ACP action is strong enough, you can shoot +P and 45 Super out of it.

That said I dont think 45ACP is worth the aggravation in a Savage bolt action Rifle.
I just attempted to set one up on an intermediate length Mauser and after much frustration I figured out it just was not going to feed with that feed ramp which is different than a 98.

The kit they sell has a Savage type barrel with a nut and a magazine adapter. Sold by Rhineland Arms.
Finally after about 2 days of frustration I figured it was just not going to feed and decided to ream the Rhineland Arms barrel to 450 Bushmaster which hasnt happened yet.

Supposedly a Mauser 98 will work but after what I went through I dont want to even try it.

An Enfield is supposed to be the bolt rifle to convert to a 45 ACP. It supposedly works well.

I was thinking of the 45 Winchester Magnum. I just checked my book. Got the names backwards.
