Being one of those who can't seem to make up his mind....What is a
good twist for the lighter bullets..If I do this,I want it for close range
f class, nothing over 300 at the most around here..And also to use
for deer hunting..Thinking of a varmint weight barrel as well..:very_drunk:
Thanks..

"Lighter bullets" and "deer hunting" do not go well together in the .243 win.

You do not lose a lot of accuracy in lighter bullets when using standard twists unless you are a top tier competitive target shooter

So, even if there is a marginal improvement in accuracy by going slower than the 9.25 or 10 twist found in most off the shelf 243 Winchesters, you will likely get very good accuracy in the 55gr pills and still be able , to stabilize the 80 grain lead-free and the 90 - 100 grain classic jacketed bullets.

I Have a 26" 12 twist that I can shoot 55gr all the way to 95gr Noslers that is a pretty wide range of bullets.

have you ever tried 68 gr berger bulets?..I have lots of them on hand...What did you find to be your best powder of use?

I have not tried the Bergers, but I have shot Barts 68gr with great success, and as far as powders go lets see Varget, RL15, H414, W760, CFE 223,H380,

The issue with a "light" bullet in any twist, is enough RPM for bullet destruction. This really depends upon the jacket design/thickness.
Sierra has the strongest jackets(generally speaking), Hornady bullets for an example, have an RPM limit of approx. 290,00RPM. so just do some simple math, and you can approximate if your twist is pushing the limit. Match accuracy doesn't like pushing the bullets limits, as the differential of CG and rotation causes an induced wobble.

FWIW I have pushed the 58gr V-Max past 4000fps in a Savage 9.25" twist barrel of my 243AI and had no issues of over spinning bullets and get great accuracy.

I've done the same thing with a 8 twist. However, if I shot 6-8 times quickly, I would have them desinegrate (barrel heat).
