Axis or traditional 10/110?

I am looking for a new bolt gun in .308. I have built a few nice rifles on savage/stevens actions but have been away from the scene for awhile. How are the Axis rifles out of the box? Are they the next best thing since sliced bread or should I consider a traditional Savage 10/110?

If you wanted to build on it in the future, the 10/110 gets the nod.....more aftermarket support.
