My son in law recently got an axis in 7-08 and it is dong a good job for him. My question is what of the similarities or differences between an Axis and the older style actions like a 110 or 10? Barrels, Barrel nuts, Triggers, stocks, etc. Just curious.

Axis uses the same bolt head, Same Barrel Nut, and is compatible with the same small shank barrels. Other than that it has a unique Bolt Length, Bolt Handle, Recoil Lug, Action Screw Spacing Pattern. Currently aftermarket support although getting better is still lacking, but they do shoot. My first build was on an Axis Action. No regrets, just need more options for where I wanted to take my shooting, so I moved up to the M10/110 Actions.

Aren't the DBM's interchangeable as well?

Only with newer models. The 10s and 110s used to have better Mag systems too.

Another thing that is unique about the Axis is that it's a long action, so with the ,473 bolt head you can run anything in the 308 or 30-06 family as it has an adjustable baffle for the bolt throw. However, the magazine size for short action and long action is determined by the stock it sits in.

It is a long action, but it uses a short action bolt head, oddly enough.
