I have a 20" 308 that is so handy I usually grab it over my other rifles just for weight and length advantages. Its only 130 yards to the edge of my field from my house and the longest shot available is around 200-250.
I also like to shoot the rifle occasionally at my 500 yard field.
What I am looking for is a small, lightweight scope with a target turret and a mil dot reticle. Do they exist? I think the closest thing I can find so far to fit the bill would be a Nikon BDC 3-9x40, but I would rather dial my own than be stuck at certain ranges.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How about the Redfield RevolutionTAC 3-9x40 http://www.redfield.com/_media/downloads/Revolution-TAC_3-9x40_scope.pdf

The Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44 http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/vortex-viper-pst-2-5-10x44-riflescope-with-ebr-1-moa-reticle

The Leupold VX*R Patrol 3-9x40 http://www.leupold.com/tactical/scopes/vx-r-patrol/vx-r-patrol-3-9x40mm-30mm/

Be careful with "factory" BDC reticles as they are typically designed for one cartridge shooting at a specific velocity. If you're rifle/ammo won't meet those specs the factory BDC will not match.

I had one of the bdc Nikons before on a rimfire and used the "spot on to calculate what the reticle coincides to on particular rounds. I was considering that mainly because it would be short range, and another was the price. That being said I own a Vortex PST 6-24x 50 FFP and it has me spoiled. I had never had a mil-mil FFP scope and I have come to appreciate the ranging and adjustment capabilities and how easy it is to shoot long range. It sits on a Savage LRP 6.5CM. The weight and price was what I was trying to avoid with this one! I wNt a scope That will take a little golf cart/four wheeler/truck beating, a target elevation turret, and mil dot reticle. I may have to settle with a little less, but that is what I like! I just want something like that that wont break the bank.
That redfield tac looks alot like what I want. I just wish I could get one in mil-mil!
I can live with a lightweight mil dot reticle-moa adjustment with no target reticle and just hold over for the small amount of long range I would be using it for.
I appreciate the info Rick W.

Yep, I have a couple. Like them a lot.

Sniper Central does reviews on some tactical scopes it believes are worthy of even being considered for anything tactical. They offer very good, in my opinion, critiques of scopes and rifles, etc. They only gave it a 2.5 out of 5 stars, but for what you are asking out of it, that's pretty good.
