Just picked up a 7mm WSM and while taking it apart to clean it I noticed this. It sits between the trigger group and the stock.

What is it? What does it do?

None of my other 200/110s/PTAs have had this.

Is the bolt head the controlled feed? Looks like the standing ejector.

I think bassman is correct.

Yeah I believe the large shank short mags are control round feed. How does it differ from a regular action.

My WSM action had it as well. I think all WSM actions are control feed. It is the standing ejector. If you are going to a push feed bolt head you simply leave it out.

Not all WSM actions are CRF. The CRF was adopted for the WSM's when Savage was still using the Stagger-feed magazines because the WSM rounds would hop out of the mag early and cause hang ups. Once the Center-feed magazines were conceived then the CRF was not needed as the CF mag would hold the round properly to utilize a Push-feed setup once again, so you can find WSM's setup either way with either magazine due to rifles being built during the change overs.

But yes the part does appear to be the standing ejector.
