Accuracy potential of a pre accutrigger MKII?

Have just picked up a Savage MKII pre-accutrigger sporter barrel with the syn stock.

What is the potential of this gun?

Looking to build a .22 that will be competitive to 100 yards.

What can I do with this gun to make it sub moa accurate out to 100?

Check and tighten the bedding.
Check and tighten the scope mounts and rings.
Shoot GOOD ammunition.
Not knowing your level of competence with gunsmithing, I don't know what to tell you about the trigger.

involves a walmart non accutrigger "pencil" barrel. has some trigger mods in it that work.

the biggest improvement will be replacing or altering the trigger poundage. 6lbs 6 oz. from the factory.....

i also bought a mkii bv (heavy barrel) pre accutrigger, i put a rifle basix trigger in it, improved it by leaps and bounds.

It looks like you've made some major improvements on the sporter .22.

If you had to do it all over again, would you build up the sporter or buy a new MKII heavy barrel?

It looks like you have about $400 into the gun as well as about a weeks worth of time. If you add it all up and compare it to $225ish for a new MKII and $65is for the scope which do you think gives the best return?

definately the heavy barrelled one (i already have one, a BV) however the intent was to use the rifle for hunter class in smallbore silhouette matches also, so the heavy barrel automatically puts me into the standard class. that's another reason for the sporter F model.

obviously many of the modifications / improvements didn't need to be made, which would lower the overall price.

Thanks for the reply. A few weeks ago I picked up a MKII BTV. Didn't like the thumbhole stock so I swapped it out with a standard B stock, very happy with the rifle.
