This has been asked numerous times I know but a search did not turn up much for a custom stock.

I know the action is longer and has the notch in the bottom for the axis lug, but if using a totally custom stock
is it possible to use a normal recoil lug.

IE the recoil lug would be farther forward in the custom stock.

Would I need a shorter barrel nut to be able to do this ?

I asked this question almost a year ago. It may work, but the best thing to do is face off/true the action in order to use a standard lug so that it is flush and makes 100% contact with the face of the action. I have not had any real issue with the standard Axis lug though as far as consistency in shots.

This is going to be a 223 target rifle and going into a BSA CFT target stock so the lug location doesnt matter at least I dont think it does.
Thanks will look into it.

I haven't had any issues with the factory Axis style lug either, but if you're going to use a regular recoil lug, I would definitely face the front of the action to do it, otherwise you won't have consistent pressure/torque on the nut.

Hmm, well just thinking about it, The axis nut as is doesnt have even pressure on the receiver, not that it matters.

Think I will just keep the Axis lug setup.
Thanks

I have done several that way. By facing off the front of the receiver and then cutting the notch for the alignment tab, puts the lug in the same exact location as a factory lug. It will still fit into a factory stock.

How much does that service cost ?

That is included with a T&T for an Axis, which is $75.00.
