Went ok for shooting in winds up to 30mph in the mountains of Lytle Creek, CA.

Placed 9th out of 17, but took top 308 out of the 4 or 5 of us.

The wind was serious and largest targets were 2 MOA at 500 yards.

Great time, great bunch of guys, I'm hooked!

I didn't think there was a place with more wind then down there till I started hunting in eastern Montana! Sounds like a lot of fun.

It was ridiculous yesterday. Between actions full of sand and everything it was definitely a test of man and equipment. I had some malfunctions myself which after about an hour of getting the sand out of all the nooks and crannies lead my to some more home gunsmithing adventures. I had to grind down and polish up the feed ramp and spend some more time tuning up the AICS mag I have. Accurate mag seems to run without issue though. Some minor tuning Still to work out, but I'm also waiting for a new barrel from Apache. Going to switch over to a 6mm and be ready for the start of the 2015 season if I can manage to make some more of these events and get some good practice in.

It seems like all these matches in the west are held in the worst conditions known to man! I have been really fortunate as my rifle has never quite on me. My scope has failed and I have failed the rifle just keeps on shootin. I run my bolt gun dry and carry a chamber brush and some hoppies in a little bottle. When things start to go south I run some hoppies on the chamber brush and then rap a patch on the brush to clean it out. Then I wipe the bolt down with a rag and more hoppies and then wipe it all off. Its ready to run again. The mag thing must be gun specific cause I had a lot of problems with accurate mag. Never tried AICS. Still had fun, right?

For sure! Maybe you can make it out to one of the monthly matches, so I'm not the only barrel nut on the line.

Today's COF was as follows.... However they weren't in this order
Stage 1 - Warm up towel head
Targets - (2) IPSC flappers @ 395yds, (2) 8" hanging @ 515yds, (2) Skinny sammies flappers @ 310yds, Taliban target @ 150ish
75 seconds
(7) rounds
Starting prone with mag in, bolt back.
On beep shooters will engage the taliban target with 1 round) then engage their 395yd flapper with 1 round, then engage the 515yd plate with 1 round, then the 310yd flappers with 1 round. Then repeat on steel only!!
Cold bore hits were made Darren,Solo & myself
Joe H, Phil, Larry, & Eddy all had 2 hits on steel for the rest of the stage (highest for the stage)

Stage 2 - Holdovers (2 shooters at a time)
(6) Rounds
Shooters begin prone behind rifle, bolts back.
Targets- 310yd skinny sammys , 395yd IPSC flappers, & 515yd 8" plate
10 pts per hit
60 sec prep time
Starting prone with bolt back
On beep shooters will have 90 seconds to engage 310yd skinny sammys , 395yd ipsc flappers, & 515yd 8" plate from near to far then repeat. Shooters will advance to next target if they miss shot. Once stage begins shooters may not touch their elevation knobs.
Evin,JoeV,Jason, Danny all had 4 hits for a stage high score

Stage 4 - Long range steel circles 12"
This stage replaced our paper long shot stage because the wind was blowing so hard the paper stands & targets weren't holding up..... So the shooter had 30 sec to send 5 rnds down range & hopefully hit the huge steel.. With this much wind it was very hard to make hits.
Solo was kickin ass with that gasser scoring 4 hits for the highest score.

Stage 5 - Pool balls
Targets - 150yd blue / purple pool ball paper, 310yds (any size) red, green, brown, 395yds (any size) orange, yellow. 515yds black.
120 seconds
(10) rounds
Starting prone with mag in and bolt back
On beep shooters will engage pool balls in order of 1-8. All targets must be hit to advance and they must be hit in the correct order or the player will "scratch". The Black 8 target will be worth 30 points but a miss on this target counts as a "scratch" and a zero for the stage. The order & color of the balls were given just prior to shooting.... This was a fun stage
Evin & Joe V had 5 hits each for this stage.

Stage 6- tank trap hostage
Target - 250yd hostage IPSC
60 seconds
(5) rounds
Starting port arms
On beep shooters will engage hostage taker 5 times. -10 for hostage hits.
Joe H, Aaron, Solo & Evin all scored 3 hits.

Stage 8 - roof top
Targets - 310yd 10" white & 395yd 12" white
90 seconds
(6) rounds
Starting port arms with no gear staged on prop
On beep shooters will run up roof top and engage 310yd target with 1 round. Then transition to 395yd target and engage with 1 round. Repeat process until all 6 rounds have been fired.
Jason took this stage with 4 impressive hits on the rocking rooftop. Awesome shooting Jason!!

Very good COF. If timing is right when I come down, I'll slip away and shoot with you guys. Does it fill up or are there spots open?

LoneWolf

I don't think they really have a limit. If you get on the forum just try to RSVP, so they can plan if they have a large amount. They ran two COF's simotaneously.in some instances.
