I have a Stevens that started out as a 30-06. I am building it into a 6.5x55, but found a good deal on 223 barrel and bought it with the intention of using it on a yet to be acquired action. I got to thinking that I probably could use this barrel on the current action if I single load and get some new bolt parts. Is this true? What all do I need? Thanks

As long as the 223 barrel has the same shank as the action size you should be good to go, but you will need to single load it.
Then all you need is a 223 "long action" bolthead(they are different from a short action bolthead), and the tools and headspace gauges to install it.

.

Keeping in mind using it as a single-shot and not a repeater...

The long action will work fine for the shorter cartridge.

Will need a complete new bolt face for the 223 which will be instantly interchangeable with the existing bolt face allowing two families of cartridges to be used.

Now the question is where is the best place to find a 223 bolt head for a long action?

Numrich may have them also, or maybe Midway or Brownells. Stockade should have it also. I have one but not sure if I wanna let it go yet or not.
