Threaded my Axis handle

If I own it, it must be threaded. Barrel, bolt, whatever..... that's just how it is when you have a lathe to play with.
I just bought an Axis to build on, so had to make a jig for the bolt handle. I think it turned out pretty good. It's threaded 5/16-24 and I also made the knob. The handle is slightly ovaled where the existing knob was, so can't really get a true seamless fit. Overall I'm happy with it.

Thanks. I think the next step for this Axis will be making a receiver jig so that I can trim the front off and use a regular recoil lug. This is the first Axis I've ever handled and really like the receiver for some reason. Just something new I guess.

I like that. That looks perfect. The aftermarket handles I've seen are solid. I kinda like the little cut outs on the factory bolt handle, just need a bigger knob.

What is your idea?

I don't have any pics of an Axis handle jigged up yet, but here are a couple of my regular Savage Model 10 type handles in the works. They are old pics from when I first tried it. My new jig is similar.

Personally I would have threaded the knob and drilled and tapped the handle. But the way you did it works too. Thanks for sharing.

Depends on how its done. If you want to retain the factory shank (like mscott did here) then threading the shank in a lathe and tapping the knob is the only way because of the cut outs in the handle's shank.

Now if you are wanting to replace the shank as well (which is what I have done with the 110 and Axis handles I have made) then I cut down the handle and remove the knob and shank, drill and tap the base that attaches to the bolt, and then cut my new shank and knob all at one time and cut the male threads onto the shank.

There are several ways to skin this cat, as always Mscott turned out a nice handle.
