1949 Savage 99

I have an opportunity to purchase this 250 3000.It has a 22" barrel and appears to be in nice shape,unfortunately the receiver has been drilled and tapped for a side mount scope. Can someone tell me what letter designation the rifle would be and what a fair price would be to offer.

Anybody care to hazard a guess at a fair price in Canadian values, I would like to make an offer this week.

Generally speaking I'd say $400-500 since it's a 250-3000 Savage. Value is so subjective on older guns so it really boils down to what you're willing to pay for it to get it. Even if you over pay a little now, if you hold onto it for 5-10 years and keep it in similar condition you'll likely end up making money on it in the long run.

Note: That may be a little high for Canada as Joe has repeatedly noted that they tend to be a little cheaper up there than they are here in the states.

Thanks J.Baker .Yes I can see that prices are highly subjective. One fellow on another site with a CDN. address said in light of the top and side mount holes plus the non factory sling studs it would barely be worth $300 CDN. I would be buying it to use a little but am also starting to gather a collection of 99's that i would like to have some value.
Which model in 250 3000 would have some value in an unaltered condition.

Most any 99 in .250-3000 in unmolested condition will have good value so long as the condition is there (no rust or pitting, bluing in respectable condition for it's age, no cracks or major defects in the wood, etc). Based on my experience, of the more common chamberings the only thing harder to find than a good clean 99 in 250-3000 is a good clean one in .30-30.
