Now I understand having small capacity cases like the 6AI.

Heck, I have a 6TCU, 6BR, 6-250, 6XC, and the like for experimental work.

Use 'em to simulate long range fifty yard shots nearer to the muzzle.

But if you're going after trophy prairie dog bulls, you should leave the small stuff at home.

Ever stretch out a skinned prairie dog like they do those Alaskan brown bears ?

You must really have a problem out there with charging bean bears, since you keep mentioning 50 yard shots.

Maybe I should come out there and bring my 338 win mag and my 375 H&H to help you eradicate the little buggers!

Don't tease Hammer! He has seen attacks and gnawings on the American Great Plains that no man should have to see.

I know for myself, that ever since I witnessed the fatal gnawing of Scratch McGee, I often wake up screaming, in the middle of the night, soaked in cold sweat.

In regards to the 240 WBY, if want it, if the air will be cleaner, the sun will shine brighter and you will be happier go for it.

If you are still open to suggestion, go to reloadersnest.com and compare the 250 Ackley Improved to your Wby. With 80 and 100 gr. bullets, you get the same velocity with 9-10gr. less powder. Just something to think about.

There you go.

Wanting to save powder.

Worse than those folks wanting to save gasoline.

Myself, nothing with less than 450 cubic inches under the hood is safe to ride in.

Just get you some auxiliary tanks that hold about 60+ gallons and go.

This is America !

Oh I remember the days of the big block.....seems so long ago.

The ol 460 used to embarass those rice burners what fun. Passed everything but the gas station.

I would only want the wby to make the brother in law jealous ;)

The 250 ai sounds interesting though...would be fun in a classic series...kind of a sleeper

Yes. Load it hot and shoot it far. Blow the bejeezus out of every critter in range and take pictures. Pull the trigger until the barrel melts, skim the slag, and sell the scrap metal to fund your next project. You have hunting rifles. Now is the time to create a monster, to build a flat-shooting Frankenstein. Go forth and make ugly.

I know a little about inefficiency. I drive a 2000 Excursion. 10.3 MPH around town, 10.5 MPH driving here to Florida. 8)

I remember the magical sound of a quadrajet setting on top of a Pontiac 455. When you stomped on it and it sounded like it was trying to suck the hood down into the engine.

I just think that its way cool to equal the overbores with tiny rounds.

Have an Excursion 4x4 and a F250 4x4 both with V10s.

Used to have the F250 4x4s with the 460 V8.

Back in the days of yore when dinosaurs roamed the earth, had Chevy Impala SS with 327 and another with 427.

And Duece-and-a-Quarters with 455s.

And there were Chrysler New Yorkers with 440s.

Once had a Lincoln Premier with an engine so big it could challenge the Saturn 5 rockets.

Why can't we get someone to build something like those today ?

Bigger, better, faster. Spare no expense and have a good time.

Although from, what I have seen, unless you use a three foot long barrel the .240 Wby, 6mm-06, 6mm-284 (which I have) do not represent a significant enough increase over the .243 AI or 6mm AI to warrant the brain damage. I won't likely be re-barreling to a 6mm284 when mine is done. Prolly a .243 AI.

Boy are you guys bringing back memories. My first car was a 64 fury 383 dual point with a 3 speed column shifter and a 323 rear end= screamer.
Next was a 69 396 chevelle 350hp with the holley carb. then I put three deuces on it, it was basically flying on the ground, but never made it past a gas station.
Then I got married and the speed machines went away and I went to the F100 with a 302 and in 81 changed t0 the 150's and haven't looked back still buying them today.

Just go ahead and build a 6mmSAUM and be done with it.... I like mine. ;)

Won't last long but I just use mine for deer hunting on occasions.

Rembering to place rifle in the rack muzzle down will extend barrel life, as this allows rifling to drain out in an uniform manner.

Well this thread is totally in the ditch now...

Here you go Hammer, these pix are for you. Yes I still have it. 73 Dodge 440 big block punched 30 over. Built it myself. It gets 6 mpg and has to run on premium unleaded because of the 11:1 compression...

The "new" engine...
