Savage 110S Series J ???

Hey guys, hope im in the right place. I'm looking for some information on a rifle I recently acquired. Long story short, I ended up with a Savage .308 heavy barrel 110s Series "J". Any way, I'm not really a savage expert, so I don't know a lot about it. Its an older rifle I'm guessing early 80s and its in great overall condition. Stock shows some age and has small little dings and such. but very nice looking. Buddy I got it from claimed its a shooter, so I had to test it out. It had a crappy piece of glass on it but I gave it a try. I only got out to about 100 yards and used a tree as a rest, but I tore one big hole with three shots. Trigger is VERY light. The stock is stippled and looks to be factory done and has a palm swell grip. Great balance. Looks like it had a bedding job too. Its defiantly a bench style rifle. After I shot it, I completely stripped it down and gave it a detailed cleaning. I took some pics.

Any Savage experts out there who can give me a little info on this rifle? History? Age?

I took it as payment for some work I did, so does this thing have any collector or significant value? or did I get hosed..lol

Savage Arms has a search engine where you can input the serial number of the rifle and it may return some information depending on the age. Don't expect a Car Fax though....lol..As for what it is worth they have a very similar J series 110 at the local Cabelas for 299.99..

Yes it does. This rifle came out when silhouette hooting took off in popularity and Savage wanted in the game with a factory rifle.

The series J is noted for its unique spacing for the action screws. They are 4.522 inches. The only problem with the series J is that there are not many aftermarket stocks available. Otherwise it is as interchangeable as any other 110. I have a 110CL (left hand clip fed) from the early 1970s that is a J series. Fortunately I am happy with the rifle as is and have no desire to mod it. I have 3 Savages that I barrel swap with and two that I do not.

The S series were noted a great shooters. You have a keeper there.

Any short action blind mag stock will work. Move the front action screw hole forward less that 1/4" and you're good to go. Bolt body is longer but everything else is the same as the rest of them.
I picked up a 110 V (my first Savage) years ago after a long search. It's my go to rig that I'll keep till the day I die. It's been everything from 20 VT, .221 Fireball all the way up to 6.8 SPC and a few in between.
Scope mounts (that fit like ther're suppose to) are a bugger to find. Best to go with a two piece mount with the rear windage adjustment. Round front and flat back. That way, no problems with the mount covering the port, too long or too short.
You got hosed. Ship it to me and I'll dispose of it with the respect it deserves.

The 110S Silhouette modes were offered From 1977-80 IIRC. Stock pictured is factory original - stippling and all.

Certainly this is an older Savage. I bought one recently in 22-250 with no Letter, Five Number identifier. I pay $300 plus shipping for it. These are very desirable rifles due to their quality and accuracy. If it is as good as it looks, it should fetch more from a serious Savage shooter.

The guy that gave you the rifle didn't hose you. It is a mighty fine rifle. I have one and also an original 110V barrel in .223 that I can swap.
