Good read. Thanks for the details. I don't plan on doing one, but you never know what the future holds.

Good stuff here. I have been debating doing a Remington or a Savage DIY gun for a while now. I like the DIY aspect of the Savage but the Remington 700 (in LA) has better after market support. Now I can do exactly what I want!

I'm planning on doing something very similar but I'm going to cheat. I was going to use a Shilen action but decided to use a Rem 700 style (Stiller Predator) as my starting point. Going to put it in an MDT LSS chassis.

Got my barrel, cleaned it up and have my action ready to put it all together.

As soon as I get the case to use as my go-guage Ill get it put together and tightened down. Looking at pro varmint from boyds I think. Wanting to put in pillars and bed it to start with. More to come soon...hopefully

I quickly found out tape wasnt helpful lol...thanks for the heads up on the chamois capt.
Dean I had sorta thought about being able to keep the barrel for a change every once in a while but wasnt sure, especially since it got marred up pretty bad.
Ben, I had planned to go into detail with the "machine work" so I gotcha covered when I get to that point.
Loneranger, I haven't decided on the stock yet, but Ive already got my barrel and caliber picked out. Its a Mcgowen 1:8 twist, chambered in the 6x55 Swede. Dean (aka scope eye), and Hot Olds turned me onto it a little while back, when i was asking about a 6mm. Thats a caliber I dont have and I wanted it to be different, so....thats what I went with. Its chambered using a 6br reamer (Dean, correct me if I'm wrong) but run in a little bit farther. Accuracy reports are really good and the speed is awesome too. There should definitely be a nice red mist factor where varmints are concerned ;). A big plus is being able to use Lapua brass, for reasonably cheap $70ish/100.

Excellent caliber/cartridge choice!
You won't be disappointed.

I have to see if I can find some Rem Actions. I have a couple rifles now, but they shoot so don't want to mess with them right now. Might have a line on a LA that has some pretty hefty pitting on the barrel since it sat under a couch for a long time unmaintained. HHHHHHMMMMMMM got me thinking now!

HotOlds, I hope so because you and Dean made me do it lol. I'm pretty excited about it. If I like it well enough I lve seriously thought about making it a lighter weight deer rifle with the cartridge...I think that would be a fine deer round.
MasterChief, you need to find some lol...its a fun little project

Rem M700 SA converted to Remage with precision lug and nut
26in Mcgowen 1/8 twist ss bull chambered in 6x55 swede improved
Boyds Pro varmint stock in "sky" color
Glass and mounts still to come.
Ive not gotten a chance to shoot it yet as the swede case head doesnt fit my bolt face very well, and Im in the process of figuring out which solution is gonna best to alleviate that. I will say however, that the swede case fits my savage bolts just fine....darn
Remmys! 😠
I do wanna thank scope eye, hotolds442 and apache(if he keeps it up he just make a good barrel man someday 😉) for all the help thus far.
Once I get it shooting Ill update this post with the results, but this has been the entire conversion part so the rest (shooting etc) will hopefully be the usual affair.

You Have two choices, open up your bolt face, or turn the rim down "easier"
